It is less than 15 minutes from the Siskiyou County seat of Yreka, a larger town of just under 8,000. Yreka has a larger variety of stores, restaurants, a branch of College of the Siskiyou and a small hospital. Fort Jones and the Casson Ranchette are at the north end of beautiful Scott Valley, a very scenic area at the foot of the Klamath National Forest and Marble Mountain Wilderness. This lovely area is well known for its many outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking and more. This is a nice area for blacktail deer hunting (B Zone) and a variety of wildlife can be seen year round. Siskiyou County, is at the northern most part of the state, sharing a border with Oregon and is a part of what many locals refer to as the state of Jefferson.
