In the late 1970’s, Jim became a real estate broker and entered the field of construction, literally learning the business from the ground up from a well-known local contractor. He was in charge of marketing and eventually became Vice President and co-owner of the company and worked there for 14 years, obtaining his own contractor’s license along the way.
The company built over 600 homes in the El Dorado County area. Over the years he began to focus more on marketing rural properties and land development and was involved in a number of projects in the Placerville area and Northern California. He formed and managed a number of partnerships that were successful in land development and home building.
In 1994, Jim went out on his own, becoming a consultant to developers and builders in Northern California, while managing his own real estate brokerage activities.
He contracted as the Site Acquisition Coordinator for a major western US apartment developer and served for a time as the Site Acquisition Manager for a team involved in expanding cell phone networks in the San Francisco Bay area for Verizon, MetroPCS, and Crown Castle. He has his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California.
After having been a real estate broker for 37 years, Jim joined California Outdoor Properties and Cabela’s Trophy Properties because “I believe this is hands-down the best ranch and land marketing organization in the western US. I raised my kids in the middle of a 700 acre ranch with chickens, horses, ponds and wildlife and they were the best years of my life. I’ve always loved the land and I want to help other people share this lifestyle. This is the only way to live.”
He is an avid fresh and saltwater fly fisherman, likes to hike in the Sierra’s, body surf, spend time with his grandkids and play the blues guitar. Jim has lived in the Placerville area for the last 35 years and has been an active member of the community. He was the founder of El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity, Inc., served on the Board of Directors for the El Dorado Builders Exchange, the El Dorado County Housing Advisory Commission, El Dorado County Economic Advisory Committee and on advisory committees for two state legislators.
